Maggie Mae

Maggie Mae AKA, Magster, Mags, Rocket Dog, Ms. Mae has been with me now for almost 1 year. Maggie has become the best dog I have ever known. After a few questionable months she has come into her own. She now has the confidence to be herself; she has a terrific personality and is always in a good mood. She is a very sweet and loving girl who loves to play and snuggle. Maggie makes weekly trips to the beach and loves to run on the sand and jump into the water, the first time we hit the beach she ran right into the ocean, I was amazed she is fearless. Maggie has many dog friends who we see everyday on her twice daily walks, her best bud’s are Riley, Jerry, Sam, Oscar, Mattie and Jake her BT boyfriend. Everyone in the family was instantly in love with Maggie; I think her kiss attack greeting has something to do with it. I think Maggie knows she has found her forever home. I am grateful that I found her through BTRNC. The people that make up BTRNC are the best, without their love, time, compassion and money so many great dogs would be lost. I will continue to support them for as long as I can.
Maggie also sends a special thank you to her foster mom, Ms. Elaine.

Dudley

Here's a photo of Dudley enjoying the sunshine. We adopted him in late 2005. He's a fun loving Boston who's full of energy and has never met a stranger. We love him!

2007 Update: He is doing really well – hard to believe he’s over 2 years old now. I attached a picture of him posing on the arm of the couch. He’s so funny. Obedience school was so beneficial for us and Dudley. He’s really smart. We love him so much!!

Edgar (formerly Bacco)

We got Edgar at the beginning of November and initially we thought he was extremely subdued, because he didn’t say much and spent a lot of time in his bed.  We soon discovered, however, that he is a vibrant little dog who loves to play, jump and eat “cookies.”  Edgar dismembered several animal toys within hours of getting them, but we found a relatively indestructible friend in a pink rabbit that he enjoys tugging and twisting.

He likes to be near us at all times and even sits by Janet while she cooks; if anyone comes to the door while she’s not paying attention, he unleashes a mighty bloodhound yodel to warn her.  Other than that, he rarely makes any noise at all.  Edgar loves to snuggle on the couch in the evenings and curls into the smallest crevice he can find.  Although we truly value his companionship, his snoring and gas could put a 400 pound man to shame.

He recently made friends with a large lady Labrador and is adjusting wonderfully to life in Charleston.  We can’t wait to take him to the beach when it gets a little warmer!  Thanks to everyone at BTRNC who helps match dogs with their new people.  We can’t imagine life without Edgar.

Jackie Chan (formerly Jack)

Jackie Chan, formally known as Jack, became a member of our pack - Brian & I (both Army Veterans), KC (older Boston sister), Cody (the cat) and Dude (my first darling and 12 year old Boxer) in May 2005. We decided to get another Boston mainly for KC’s sake. You see, she is extremely attached to Dude and Dude is getter older. Adding a younger buddy and playmate would be a good for both her and Dude.

When we met Jackie Chan, he was still recovering from being lost or abandoned accompanied by malnutrition when found in January 2005. His age was unknown; he was still really skinny at 15 lbs and re-growing his hair. His resilience is amazing though. Now, he is a whooping 19.5 lbs. His teeth were checked and we’ve learned that he is only 3 years old! . He is extremely happy, loves everything about us and life and shows it “OUT LOUD.” He adores going for walks, but playing ball with us is his favorite. He and KC wrestle and run while we’re busy around the house. When bedtime comes, he waits for us to settle in before he comes and asks to get in under the covers (we even purchased a bigger bed to accommodate us all). He snores as loud as a person, but it is one of the funniest things I’ve ever heard. He’s not a morning dog as he likes to eat breakfast and go back to bed, but in the afternoon and evening he’s non-stop. Jackie is vibrant and full of himself. He keeps KC young and I couldn’t imagine our lives without him.

Sincerely,

Angela Mullennex (Jackie Chan’s new human)

Little Bits and Skittles

I wanted to let you know that Little Bits and Skittles are just fine and doing well. Actually, that's the polite way of stating it. We think they're perfect! They have settled in to a very comfy lifestyle; they are used to sleeping on the couch during the day and getting first choice of bed space at night.  Since I've been spending more time at my mom's, The Girls and Saaz are in charge of the house. Skittles and Little Bits have Shawn well trained. They all enjoy two or three regular evening walks as well as rides to my mom's house for an evening visit. Their personalities have blossomed! Little Bits regularly gives hugs when it's time to go out and settles in quite close for cuddles in the evenings. Skittles greets us with a toy when we come home and says a proper hello prior to going outside. Both girls follow Shawn around the house during the morning and evenings. When all three dogs follow him from room to room, they look like circus ponies in a ring.  Little Bits and Skittles have both been to the vet's for routine visits. No seizures for Little Bits; Skittles has only experienced an infected sebaceous gland which was treated successfully with antibiotics.  The vets and techs all think that the girls are very dear. Of course! Jazz ( the fourth Boston, now known as Maggie) has moved into my sister's home, where she is the princess (sleeping on a hot pink bed).  This proved to be beneficial for the girls, as they began to play more with each other and Saaz, rather than solely interacting with Jazz. Jazz and Skittles would play together well, but would exclude Little Bits.  Little Bits and Skittles now play with Saaz and seem to regard him as the man in charge.  We are very grateful for your faith and trust in us. I appreciate that you made a difficult decision, but know that they are well cared for, treasured and loved!!

Bartley

Dear friends at BTRNC,

Hi! It's me, Bartley! I just wanted to let all of you know about my new home and life in Charleston, SC. My new mom and dad came to pick me up from my wonderful foster mom's house in Raleigh on New Year's Eve. The car ride back to Charleston was kinda long, but I love to sleep and just lay around, so that was a perfect time to do it!
My new house is so great and I even mastered my new doggie door in one day! I have a big backyard to play in whenever I want to and a new, soft, green bed.
I've had a pretty busy first week. Our house is very close to Folly Beach, so my new parents took me there the other day. We walked near the ocean and picked up seashells. I went to see my new vet, Dr. Feinberg, to get a check-up for my Cushing's (I'm feeling good by the way). I think I'm going to like him--he's very nice and gentle.  I'm getting about 100 belly rubs a day and lots of hu gs and kisses. I want you all to know that I have finally found my true forever home. I know that my new parents love me a lot and will always protect me and make sure I'm healthy and comfortable.
I love you all, thank you for everything you've done for me!
Love,
Bartley Johnston Davis

Princess

Thought I would share this pic of Princess and my grandson, Troy. As I recall the previous owner said she didn't like children. Couldn't be further from the truth!

Hobbit

Hobbit is wonderful!!! He has become my little shadow... follows me everywhere. Sleeps with me and gets all silly when I come home from  work. It's too cute. He has become so playful in the last few weeks...loves his ball. I have just totally fallen in love with Hobbit. Not too mention, my pit bull Eddie loves him to death, too!!  Hobbit follows Eddie everywhere. Eddie cleans Hobbit all the time and allows him to eat out of his food dish with him. You should see them  napping together. It's adorable!! Thank you all so much for allowing me to give Hobbit a home.

Bella

She is so SPOILED! She has 2 new collars a hunter green one with sparkles on it with a new leash to match. And a pink one with 2 different color rose buds around it and a leash to match. Also she got a new T-shirt that's hot pink and says, Spicy Girl, on the back with 3 paw prints with rhinestones in the middle of them. A thick sweatshirt that's heather gray for really cold weather. Allen bought this little green alligator looking thing and she fell in love with it. She wouldn't even have anything to do with all the other toys I had, just tennis balls. Until The little gator came along. So for Christmas she got a stuffed pink doggie. She has her own Christmas stocking with a BT on it with a Santa hat on, it's hunter green and red with paw prints all over it.  Bella still isn't very happy when she sees other dogs. But she still loves the cat. They are so funny together. She slobbers all over him when he comes in and he lets her. And she is obsessed with our heater ducts. She stands at 1 for hours and just looks down into it. We can NOT get her attention on anything else except her tennis ball. But even after a few minutes of the ball she's right back at staring down the hole. We don't know what her fascination is with it. Maybe she will get over it soon. Well, that's the Bella update. I am glad she is mine now. I love her dearly. She's my baby girl.

Katie

I wanted you to know Katie has settled in and is now in charge of the house!!!    She had a great weekend.  She is doing even better with going out on her own.  She just doesn't like wet weather.  I need to get her a raincoat !!  She's so cute we all can't keep our hands off of her.  The minute you come home you have this adorable welcome, butt wiggling like you said, always brings us her ball, bone, whatever she can find first.  So enthusiastic.

Ruger

Ruger and his BT buddy Bullet love to play together: tug-of-war and the bitey-face game are favorites, and they love to run the BT 500 together.

Lulu

Lulu is doing great. She's finally starting to play with her toys, and has a habit of taking each of them out of her toybox (one by one) and carrying them to the very middle of the living room. She'll make a pile out of them, then walk away... job done. :)

She enjoys playing with her BT niece, Lucy, every couple of weeks, and is continuing to learn all sorts of BT behaviors, such as running the BT 500, and doing the whole lets-bite-each-others-neck game. Oh, and of course, begging from the dinner table. Since she is a larger BT, she has figured out that she can get her front legs up on the chair rung, and lay her drooling face directly on the table to give her parents a visual reminder that she's waiting for handouts. Speaking of drooling, she has perfected blowing bubbles - she's up to two at a time on each side! Now that takes talent. :) She loves giving nose-butt kisses... but every now and then will get over-excited while the kissee gets a little nip.

Lulu's really bonded with her dad, which was surprising since we were worried about her being scared of men. She's really taken to him, and has pretty much become his shadow. She won't even let anyone walk her unless her dad is with us. We're still working on this.

All in all, she's still pretty timid, and doesn't like to be introduced to a lot of new people (unless they can bribe her with a treat) or dogs at any given time. She's continuing to warm up to the dogs in her neighborhood on a daily basis when she goes on her walks.

Ewing

Ewing is a spoiled spoiled little dog! I walk a lot to do my errands around downtown and everyone knows him already; the grocery store clerk, the pharmacist, the owner of the restaurant across the street! Everyone is very dog friendly down here. I left him alone for the first time last night and I was so worried but I got home and he was so excited, was running in circles around me and he didn't do anything naughty while I was gone. Every night he sleeps in bed with me, half the night under the covers and the other half on top of the covers. He snores so loudly though sometimes I have to roll him over! His favorite thing to do while I work is sit in the doorway to the balcony and watch the boats go by.

Mary

Mary is an adorable, sweet girl.  She is so laid back and fits right in!  She is so easy going we have nicknamed her "Mary Ploppers" because she seems happy and content to plop down just anywhere.   Her best buddy is our 12 y.o. daughter Brandy and they have really connected.  Our original Boston, Smokey, gives her the respect a nice lady like Mary deserves.  We just love her so!

Junior

I just wanted to touch base with you and let you know how much
we are enjoying having Junior in our family.  He's really a very sweet,
loving guy with lots of love and energy for all of us.  He and my husband are
practically joined at the hip!

Newt

Gracie

Everyday Gracie shows us more and more of her personality and boy, what a personality it is!  She is such a joy.  She is a cuddle bug and is sooooo well behaved.  We feel so lucky to have her in our life.  Guinness is so happy to have a playmate again.  They are getting along wonderfully and are tug-o-war pals.

Buddy

I am so proud to have adopted Buddy...We had a great weekend!  Yesterday we spent the whole day up at Freedom park making friends with other dogs and laying in the sun, we played fetch and tug-of-war with the rope toy, and watched geese paddle by in the pond.  He got quite dirty from romping around, so I gave him a nice bath before bed...he was so good, he even let me use the blow dryer on him, so he wouldn't be cold and wet for too long!!!!  Boy is he spoiled!

Buddy and the cats are (seemingly) getting more and more used to the idea of each other...no real contact yet - but they were on the same side of the fence the other day, and that's a big improvement!  Will keep you posted on the Little Man!

Cleo

Cleo is our little angel baby . She gets along great with the other two dogs Dudley and Kramer . They both take good care of her . They wash her face and ears and walk outside with her when it is dark . She does not see very well . She is now off of her medications . The Enalapril and the Lasix . She is on some antibiotics because the vet said she had an infection . She has been going to the bathroom on the floor . Did she ever do that with you guys ? The vet recently found 5 mammary tumors . We had one biopsied  and found out they were benign . Thank goodness . So how are your dogs ? Does Bullet enjoy his new brother ? Tell me about your new foster . We just adore our Cleo . She sleeps a lot . She has her own bed that my husband covers her up in every night . She also sleeps with us occasionally . She is a good sleep puppy . She also loves the sun . She scratches to go out so she can take a nap on the deck in the sun . Just love her .

Berkeley

Wanted to give you a up date on Berkeley. He is doing great!!!!   He fits in so good with our family. We take him and Glinda out at 5:15 every morning before Steven goes to work. His hair has gotten very shinny. He is coughing very little now. He sleeps in a chair beside my bed. I have a water bed and I think it will take time for him to get use to that, he will love it come winter time. Berkeley  and Glinda play good to gather, when they play they play hard. Mr. B (as we call some time) will be going to the vet next week to get a check up. ...  He stays on the porch a lot and is not following me around much at all now. There will be times in the morning after every one has had breakfast you will find, Mr. B, Glinda and my cat sleeping in the couch. What a family I have!!!!!

Leeza (renamed Liesl)

"We adopted Leeza around the 4th of July and she's just been a total
pleasure.  The name Leeza reminded us of a very similar sounding
name, 'Liesl', from one of our favorite movies, "The Sound of Music".
So we decided that Liesl would be her new name.  Then we set out to
buy all the supplies we needed (and some we just wanted) to make Liesl's
transition to her forever home a smooth one.  You have to spoil these
rescue dogs, you know! Liesl is just wonderful with our cats.  She's a
calm little girl and doesn't scare our two Siamese one bit.  All is
peaceful at home and Liesl is a perfect fit for our family.
We are currently visiting my daughter and her husband in Dallas, TX.
Liesl did beautifully on the long car trip and proved quite the good
traveler!
We were a little anxious about introducing Liesl to my daughter's three
Bostons, but after some growling and a few very Boston-like exchanges,
all is peaceful and they are all napping and eating together like old
friends.
My daughter, Kellie, has a full house of Bostons and this is exactly
the waywe like it!! Here is a photo of my grandpup Greer taking a nap on a Liesl sized
pillow. And here's the whole gang!  It's one big happy family.  I bet Liesl
will miss her BT family when we head back to North Carolina.
Thanks Roberta, Elaine and everyone at BTRNC! - Connie & Robert
Whitis"

Sabrina/ (Now Sissy)

Sissy and Toby had a ball on vacation.  The house we rented had a small fenced in yard and they loved it.  The romped and played like two kids!  They both like to ride in the car and of course they had to have chicken nuggets on the way down!  I can't wait to show you pictures of the two of them.  The look an awful lot alike and are so well suited to each other, you wouldn't believe.  Keith calls Sissy 'little girl' and he is very attached to her as I knew he would be and boy, does she love him!  She will literally jump in his arms!  Toby just wonders why it took us so long.  She matches him in size and strength and they love to play with each other.  Of course, I just adore her.  She is just the sweetest little thing and such a baby!  I can't imagine anyone else having her and can't thank you enough for letting us be her family!  I'll be in touch!!

Holly

Holly came from the Sanford puppy mill in December 2004.  I had the privilege of meeting and talking to the person who personally took her out of that horrible place.  Apparently, Holly was taken from the garage where she was housed in a cage that was nailed shut, with 95 other dogs.  She went to a wonderful foster mommy, Dawn Stewart, who spent immeasurable time and effort, in the six weeks that she had her, to get her from a 7 lb sickly baby to a healthy 10 lb  beautiful, wonderful social sweetie.

When I first got Holly, she was very shy and spent a lot of time in her cage.  She would run to her cage at every opportunity. She was suspicious of anyone who came to our house but now will stand and bark or greet anyone who happens to stop by. She apparently did not have toys at the puppy mill so she wasn't as socialized as most Boston's. She  did not know how to play.

As time progressed she became very attached to me until the present time she follows me everywhere and wants to be in my lap all of the time.  She loves cuddling up next to me at night and of course I love it even more.  She loves to ride in the car and travels beautifully. When she is taken outdoors, she immediately runs to our vehicles and demands to get in.

She started out learning to play with toys in her cage  and now she stays out of her cage most of the time.  In fact she even protest being put in her cage when she needs to be there.  She grabs anything she can find now (dishtowels, shoes, slippers and her favorite, sheets of newspapers) and challenges us to get them back. When she gets these items we can see the devil in her eyes.  What a joy it is to watch her enjoying and doing the things that most Boston's do naturally. She has even tried the BT500 albeit a little slower than 500mph. Needless to say she has become spoiled in our home and demands our attention all of the time.  We, of course, encourage this behavior because she has become our Very Special Baby. Despite being spoiled she is a very well behaved Boston.  Need I say again how much we love her and she responds in kind.

She has come a long way from the puppy mill in a short time and I am sure she will continue to expand her horizons and ours.

Lola

Lola is perfect around the kids!  She is tolerant of Maggie always wanting to "hold" her like a baby and Maggie grabs her face in between her hands and kisses her right on the lips.  Not a growl or a gruff when she does this to her either.  When Maggie sits on the couch, Lola hops right up there with her and lays down right beside her.   Marley's to hyper for Maggie and won't lay there with her long.  It drives Maggie crazy.  That's one reason why Maggie misses Annie so much and she still asks for her daily.  I just tell her that she now has a new family that will love her and take care of her forever and ever.

Lola is a pure joy to have around and we are falling in love with her more everyday!
