Sponsor a Boston Terrier in Foster Care

With veterinary bills in the thousands each month, BTRNC cannot rely solely on adoption fees and fundraisers to make ends meet.  We must look to a community of compassionate animal lovers and ask for help. Please make a donation- no amount is too small- and support our mission to make a difference one dog at a time.  Donations will be applied to the veterinary fees of the foster dog you choose to sponsor. In the unlikely event that the dog's donations exceed the cost of veterinary care, your donation will be used to help another Boson Terrier in need.

Routine veterinary care includes vaccinations, heartworm test, heartworm preventative, microchip and spay/neuter. Many of our foster dogs require more intensive veterinary care- we will post this information as applicable.

Here's how it works:

  • Select one dog or several dogs that touch your heart

  • Click on the link and make a donation through PayPal

  • Include a message for the dog you are sponsoring

  • We'll post your message and your name as our 'thank you'

BTRNC is a 501(c)(3) organization and all donations are tax-deductible

Please use this PayPal link to sponsor the dog of your choice.

*Remember to include the name of the dog  you want to sponsor in the message box.

Bee

bee
Age:  2-3 yrs

Sex:   female

Weight:  16 lbs

Good with dogs:  not always at first but then warms up to them

Good with cats: unknown

Good with children:  seems ok with older kids

Cratetrained:  yes

Housetrained:  almost!

Health concerns:  None

Adoption fee: $300

Bee is a sweet girl who is smart and eager to learn.  Her foster family reports that she has some aggressive tendencies towards her toys when other dogs are around.  She was also a bit aggressive towards the other dogs at first but was ok with them once she gets used to them.  In reality, she's actually quite timid and will cower if she thinks she's going to be corrected.  We think her actions are based on insecurity - once she feels secure, she doesn't act this way.  She has apparently been passed around during her life and doesn't quite understand where she belongs.  She would love to find that one special family who can give her the home that she's been looking for where she can relax and enjoy life.  She loves to play with balls, squeaky toys, and with the other Boston in her foster home.  She also loves belly rubs.  Bee is eager for love and attention.

Massey came to us with her brother, Journey, because their owners didn't have the resources to care for them any longer and wanted the best for them.  She is an adorable girl who loves to snuggle and play.  She is happy to sit in your lap and be petted or take a nap with her "foster parents and siblings" on the couch. She will put her two front feet up on your lap to get your attention.   She really enjoys playing with the other foster dogs in her house, especially, the male.   She can get excitable when she plays but will settle down quickly if you verbally correct her.  She loves to chew on toys, especially the Kong with a treat inside.  She loves to explore around in the backyard, especially if you have a tennis ball for her to play with.  She doesn't like to be left alone, so it would be best if there was another dog to keep her company.  She does well in the crate and hasn't had any accidents in it so far.  If you say "Kennel" she will run right in the crate, and sit down awaiting a tasty reward for her obedience.   She doesn't respond to many other commands, yet, but we will be working on the basics with her throughout her stay with.  She is such an affectionate girl who really enjoys giving kisses and meeting EVERY human and dog she sees with excitement!

Trudy is being fostered with Stitch as they may be sisters from different litters.  Trudy loves to play and to chase toys but is the type that is not good at letting the toy go when she brings it back.  Trudy will go into her crate willingly, but sometimes will whine or bark, especially in the mornings when she thinks it is time for her to be let out.  Trudy loves people and will jump in your lap for attention.  Trudy gets along very well with Stitch most of the time, except when Stitch instigates a more serious fight.  Trudy is NOT housetrained but we are working on that.  Trudy may have been kept in a yard most of her life because she will try to bury nylabones inside the house.  At this point it may be best if she was adopted separately from Stitch.  More updates later.

Stitch is being fostered with Trudy as they may be sisters from different litters.  Stitch is a very sweet dog that loves people and attention.  She likes to nap on or next to you.  She is very active and loves to chase toys and bring them back to you.  She is an alpha dog and she can get jealous if other dogs are getting attention.  Stitch gets along with Trudy most of the time, but they can get into serious fights when they are both excited or are both vying for attention.  Stitch does not like her crate and won't always go in willingly, but does not bark or whine when you put her in.  Stitch is NOT housetrained but we are working on that.  Stitch is a great dog and would benefit from basic obedience training.  Stitch would probably do best as an only dog or in a home with a submissive dog.  At this point it may be best if she was adopted separately from Trudy.  More updates later.

Bitsy is a healthy two-year-old female Boston Terrier. She is house-broken, crate and leash trained, and loves car rides.  Part of her charm is that her front feet turn out and her tongue shows. She loves people, playing with dogs and is curious about cats. When she's gets tired, she will take a nap on your lap. Age:    4 years old

Good with dogs:  Not always, best as only dog

Good with cats: No

Good with kids:  Older kids (teens)

Crate trained : Yes

Housetrained:  Yes

Health Concerns: None

Adoption fee: $300
Mollie is a very sweet, affectionate dog who loves to cuddle up right next to you.  She is a rather large and strong dog who loves to go on long walks, play with rope toys, and chew her bones. She has a strong desire to please. She is very smart and alert and will bark to let you know when someone is at the door.  She greets everyone with friendly excitement and really wants to interact with humans and play ball with them or just lay next you and chew her bone.  She looks to her human for direction and would respond well to some basic obedience training so she knows her rules.  Mollie isn't always happy to share her home with other dogs. BTRNC does not recommend Mollie in a home with small children or other dogs/cats.

Mollie's foster mom recommends a forever family with older children where she can be an only dog and get all the attention. She responds well to lots of affection and closeness.  She is a really sweet girl who will thrive in an environment where she has a set routine and stability.  She will enjoy lots of love and attention she so much deserves.  Because Mollie is larger she is the perfect dog for someone who likes to go for long walks, she is one Boston Terrier who will definitely be able to keep up!

Good with dogs:  Yes

Good with cats: Curious but not aggressive

Good with kids:  Unknown

Crate trained : Yes - but doesn't like the crate

Housetrained:  Yes

Health Concerns: Allergy to plastic

Adoption fee: $300

Julie Tee is a really sweet and loving dog who will follow her "mom" wherever she goes in the house.  She really loves to play with other dogs and is a high energy dog.  She will need a home with another dog to play with or if there isn't another dog, her family will need to give her a lot of exercise.  Julie can get stressed out easily which has caused her to have problems spitting up food and a possible ulcer from stress. This has been controlled with medication. She has probably been abandoned and moved around enough times in her life that new places have become a real source of stress for her.  Her adoptive family will need to be very patient with her as she adjusts to her new environment and it would help if the household were rather low-key.  She seems to have an allergy to plastic (her mouth turns red!) so plastic toys and dog bowls should be avoided.  Julie is ready to find the family that she fits in with the best and hopes that they will come along soon!

Pepper
Age:  10 yrs

Good with dogs:  Best as only dog

Good with cats: No

Good with children:  Older children as long as they aren't rough with her

Cratetrained:  Unknown

Housetrained:  Yes

Health concerns:  None

Adoption fee: see below

Pepper is not currently in BTRNC foster care.  Her family no longer has time for her and would like to find her a new home.  She would probably do best as an only dog as she's never been properly socialized with other dogs and doesn't behave towards them.  She walks well on a leash and must be on a leash or in a fenced yard when taken out of the house.
She is reliably house trained. She loves to go for walks and car rides and enjoys play time with her toys.  She also enjoys being outside where she can run and play.  Small children or very busy households would probably intimidate Pepper.  She does better with older children as long as they are gentle with her.  She's fearful of thunderstorms and is shy around strangers.  She likes to sit in laps or sit on the couch and watch TV with her people and would enjoy being in a household where her family can spend time with her. If you are looking for a full time cuddler, this boy is for you! Scooter was rescued as a pup from an abusive home and is still skittish in some situations.  He is more affectionate towards women than men and cowers when he thinks he may be scolded.  He is happy sitting close to his human companion, putting his head on your shoulder and being loved on!  He lives for car rides, walks, and following his human around the house looking for adventure.  Scooter gets along fine with his foster brothers and sisters but prefers human contact to playing with the other kids. He is a perfect companion dog which would fit into a family setting or the best friend of a single person.  Scooter comes to us as owner surrender from a loving household.  He is trained, responds well to instructions and adapted very well to his foster home.

Good with children: unknown - ok with a quiet child but upset by boisterous children

Health concerns: Causey is deaf

             Adoption fee: $600
That is Dude on the left and Causey on the right. Causey is completely deaf and Dude is his caretaker. We have decided we cannot separate them. Dude makes sure Causey knows to come and eat, to go to bed, to come when called, to go outside to play. They are litter mates and have been together all their lives. The two were not actually abused physically, but they were neglected to the point of being left outside, underfed, having fleas and sores and no human contact.  Although, still a little on the thin side, they are opening up and their true Boston personalities are coming out.  They weigh between 12 - 15 pounds now, seem to like the cat, love their crate, and go right into it when they are tired. They play well with the other dogs in their foster home in the best manner they know. They did not like the neighbor's grandchildren, who were loud and boisterous, but they did well with another child who was more quiet and calm around them.
Their forever family must be ready to take both since we believe Causey would be completely lost without Dude. The other day Causey could not see Dude and began trembling. Dude went up behind him and touched his back with his nose, very lightly, and Causey quit trembling and turned to Dude. At dinner, Causey always saves a few bites in his bowl for Dude.  His dependence is heartwarming, plus they play so well together.  We hope that the right family will come along that will be willing to adopt this darling pair.

He's very excitable so a consistant leader is needed to keep him in place.

My name is Roscoe and sadly, my owners had to give me up because they were moving to a place that wouldn't allow me to come.  Can you imagine?!  I'm a great dog - my foster owners agree.  I'm a fabulous family pet - quiet in my crate, no teeth when I'm playing, and like my fellow BTs.  I love, love, love attention!  Can you make a place for me in your heart and home?  If so, I promise I will be your forever friend.  I will help you lose weight by taking you on long walks or short jogs as often as you can go.  I will listen intently (while you scratch behind my ears) to all of your stories and never judge.  Finally, if you'll let me, I'll curl up at your feet in the bed, protect you and keep you warm every night.  Please fill out the application and say you'll love me!  If you can't take me home, you can always donate so that I can be "tutored" at the vet on Nov 16th.  They did say tutored, didn't they?!

He would be very good as the only dog or with a puppy that could be introduced to him to raise.  He tends to act aggressive towards dogs he sees when out in the yard. He needs a home that will provide him lots of love and a fenced in yard to chase squirrels. Zack needs to go to a home without children - he acts aggressive towards children and will bite.  He loves to go for car rides, go for walks, and go out in a fenced back yard.  For more information about Zack, please contact darlene7695@yahoo.com

Captain

Age:  7 years

Sex:  male

Weight: 24 lbs

Good with dogs:  yes - except intact males

Good with cats:  unknown

Good with children: unknown but probably so

Cratetrained:  doesn't go in willingly but does ok once inside

Housetrained:  yes

Health concerns:  None

Adoption fee:  $300

Captain has adjusted wonderfully to home life and the routine in his foster home.  He has been working hard on not having any accidents in the house. The key to Captain’s victory is 3 to 4 quick trips outside a day and limited water intake.  If water was left out for his convenience he would drink until his little heart was content!!  Captain still isn’t fond of his crate and we are working on training him to go inside willingly, however once he is inside he is a good boy!  Captain’s favorite activities are chewing on his rawhides and his dental bone (he could do it for hours!), and snuggling up with a big fluffy blanket.  He literally wraps himself up inside the blanket so that every part of his body his covered.  If one word was used to describe Captain it would it would be “cuddler”! We have discovered that Captain does not get along with intact male dogs and will initiate fights when near them.  Captain loves his foster sisters (Boston Terriers) though. He appears to get along with all other dogs.

kelso

Kelso is all "puppy".  He has come so very far in such a short time.  He has learned to play with dogs and toys.  He goes in his crate when asked, and comes when called. He does like to chew, so he has to be watched, even with a good supply of nylabones. His foster mom reports that he is a sweet boy and just wants to be cuddled.  He is getting along well with the other dogs in his foster home.  He is a high energy dog and would do best in a very active family that can help him release his energy!

little bit

This loving boy has proved to be a great companion to his foster mom as well as his canine foster sister.   He is happy to ride in the car, go for a walk, sit on the couch, play with his sister, get his belly rubbed and just about anything else you want him to do. He is friendly to everyone he meets.  He barks infrequently and only briefly.  He shows no aggression around his food bowl while eating and you can do just about anything with him. He goes to the crate in the evening easily (of course, he gets a treat). This is a real people dog and would also be very happy to have other dogs to play with. Its hard to believe that he was given up because prior owners did not want to pay for a flea infection. That issue has been fully resolved. He takes frontline every month and has had no problem with fleas since.  His picture doesnt do justice to his wonderful BT face.

Echo was pulled from a shelter.  His personality is sweet, though it has taken several months to get him to open up.   His foster mom takes him for rides in the car regularly and he gets excited just having her get the leash.  He's just an older quiet fellow that likes to be wherever people are, like sitting in the sun and having late night snacks in bed!  He has never had an accident in the house, barks to go out and come back in and has no problem being in a crate as long as he's not the only one in it while people are home.  He still loves belly rubs!!!!

Can show aggression if handler is not firm with him

Good with cats:

Good with children:
Would do best if not around children - they make him too excited

Cratetrained:
yes

Housetrained:

Health concerns:

Adoption fee:

Charlie is fabulous on a leash and enjoys going for walks.  Charlie would be best suited for a quieter home – adults only.  He is good around children but just gets too excitable.  He needs a strong willed owner who will not be intimidated by him and who is willing to continue to work with him on correct behaviors.  Charlie is a well mannered boy most of the time, but will quickly take advantage of an owner who isn't alpha and who doesn't swiftly correct him when he misbehaves. He learns very quickly and this is a good thing.  However he also learns quickly what he can get away with and where you will be inconsistent.  For the right owner, he will make a fabulous pet.

Charlie is available for adoption only to families who have experience with challenging dog behavior and experience or an interest in continued dog training.

Good with cats: probably not

Good with children:  no

Housetrained: yes

Dio is not in BTRNC foster care. He is a BT mix who resides with his current family. His family is hoping to re-home him into a living situation with no other pets and experience with dominant personalities. Dio is an alpha male and will try to assert his dominance over other pets and the humans in his life.  He is possessive of chew toys and has a history of growling and/or snapping at his owners should they try to take a chew toy from him. Dio has completed basic canine training and knows sit, stay and shake. Although at times, very dominant, Dio can also be very sweet lavishing kisses and asking for belly rubs. Dio is best suited to an individual or couple experienced with alpha personalities and/or willing to pursue training.  Please contact bethanysenkowsky@yahoo.com if you would like to discuss Dio further.

Trixie

Trixie is a senior Boston that was rescued from a shelter in NC with a severe case of heartworms.  Unfortnately, she suffered severe complications after undergoing heartworm treatment which requires her to be on daily medication for the rest of her life.  The vet has also determined that Trixie's heart is too weak for her to undergo surgery to remove her damaged eye.  Thankfully it does not appear to be causing her any pain.

Trixie loves to sit and cuddle on the couch but is so polite; she waits to be invited first.  She is completely housebroken but doesn't like other dogs much.  Trixie is indifferent to cats.  Trixie sleeps peacefully in her own little bed at night, and naps a good portion of the day.  She loves to take walks around the neighborhood, sniffing everything along the way.  Trixie does require daily eye drops which she takes with no problems, and is on a special diet because she suffers from irritable bowel syndrome.  Please consider sponsoring Trixie to assist with the cost of her monthly medications.

Andie

Andie is an 8 year old female who arrived in BTRNC foster care in fall of 2008.  We recognized immediately that Andie had serious medical problems ranging from limited vision to pelvic, mammary, and rectal tumors.  In January 2009, Andie underwent a colonoscopy which resulted in a diagnosis of colon cancer.  Surgery and chemotheraphy would devastate Andie and would add only months to her life. It was decided she would return to her foster home and resume her normal activities for as long as her health would allow.   Andie resides in a hospice situation with her foster family. Andie's foster mom reports, Andie is a super sweet, loyal dog. She likes to be close to someone and will follow me around the house. She loves to be petted and loved on. Often when she looks at you she will lay her ears back. She wants to be around people as much as possible. She is not thrilled at being left alone. Andie is fortunate to live out her life with a family who adores her.

Oscar

Oscar has been diagnosed with cancer. He resides in a permanent foster home with a volunteer experienced with providing care for terminally ill dogs.

September 2008 Update: Oscar is doing very well indeed. We walk at least a mile every day and he has learned to enjoy playing in the creek and socializing with all the other dogs we meet in the Park. He is on a very restricted diet for his allergies. His skin does well on that diet ( when I can keep him from stealing the cat’s food.)  He had to give up eating from a plastic bowl because he is allergic to plastic. Oscar also has a fondness for cantaloupe. He kept pulling the rinds out of the compost pile, so now I buy cantaloupe for him, and he usually has a nice serving just before bedtime. Oscar has a sense of humor and likes to pretend that he is going to chase the cat. He likes to dig in the dirt and it is so cute to see him start a hole. He never gets very far, but he makes a great beginning. Then he prances away.  He does not have to take any meds now, and his breathing is good... Oscar snores with more enthusiasm than any Boston I have ever known, and that’s saying a great deal! ...When the weather is cool enough, he sleeps snuggled up against me with his head on the pillow. It’s been so hot, he has slept on his own bed most of the summer, but on cool nights he is my bed buddy. Male Bostons can be so sweet and Oscar is among the sweetest.

Willis

Willis found refuge with BTRNC by sheer luck.  A volunteer with a fellow breed rescue stopped into a local shelter to inquire about a bulldog. No bulldog was to be found, but a lovely female Boston Terrier caught her attention. When she asked about the dog, the shelter worker mentioned than an older male Boston Terrier had been brought in as a stray that very day. If left unclaimed, he too would be available for adoption soon.  The volunteer brought the female home and anxiously awaited word on the male. Days later, that volunteer made the familiar trip to the shelter to rescue Willis.

Willis suffers from serious eye problems. He was initially diagnosed with Endothelial Degeneration, Corneal Lipid Dystrophy, early cataracts, and healed ulcers with scaring. In late January, Willis experienced a corneal rupture. The eye perforated again in early February so surgery was performed.

While in the hospital, an appointment with an internist was scheduled to investigate the cause of Willis' persistent hair loss and vomiting. An ultrasound showed a mass on Willis' spleen. An aspiration of the mass pointed to a mast cell tumor on his spleen. The mast cells had already infiltrated the cells of the spleen and were intertwined in the stromal cells of the spleen.  Numerous mast cells in the background blood indicate that systemic mast cell disease is almost certainly present. The prognosis for Willis is grave. His vet thinks Willis has about 3 months to live. Chemotherapy may offer him a little more time but the strain on his body would be too much.  Willis' foster mom will make him comfortable for however long he has left. He will continue to enjoy the company of his foster siblings, he will continue napping in his favorite laundry basket and he will continue to be the apple of his foster mother's eye.

Please support Willis during his time of need. His medical bills have been extensive and will continue as we keep him comfortable.

September 2009 update:  Willis has had some slight setbacks in his health.  He recently developed an ulcer in one eye and a bacterial infection in his other eye.  The medication he takes for his cancer suppresses his immune system which makes it more difficult to treat the bacterial infection.  Otherwise he is doing quite well and enjoys going outside to lay in the sun.  His vets have both remarked on how much he has improved since when they first saw him.
